Altered activity in a pet can be an early indicator of illness. Accelerometers, a type of activity monitor, are being used more frequently in pets and may be a simple way for owners to monitor their dog’s changing health needs. However, there are few peer-reviewed studies validating the precision of these devices. Researchers will study the accuracy of data recorded by an accelerometer for dogs called FitBark. This activity monitor is easy-to-use and exports minute-by-minute data. Accelerometers are potentially useful tools for owners and veterinarians to help gauge ongoing pet health concerns.
