Sarcoptic mange has been a growing concern in wildlife species around the world. In the mid-Atlantic United States, reports of American black bears affected by mange have increased in the last few years. Researchers will study the pharmacokinetic parameters (mechanisms of drug distribution) of the antiparasitic drug fluralaner to treat mange in black bears. This work will help guide the use of fluralaner in free-ranging and captive black bears in the management and control of sarcoptic mange and other external parasites diseases.
