Zaiya

Forever in our hearts

Zaiya was born in March 2013 and came into our lives at only 8 weeks old. She immediately became our priority, our friend, our partner. From the age of 6 months to 10 years old she worked daily in a preschool classroom bringing joy, comfort, noise, spontaneity, and someone to take their lunch into the children's lives. Her presence was known and appreciated by all the families.

Zaiya loved to play. She insisted on having two balls thrown to her, one after the other, and would decide when she felt appropriate to bring it back. She also loved the beach, swimming for fun and to a ball and rolling in the sand. She was always up for an adventure and would make are we knew that she wanted to go everywhere with us, even just a card ride to the store. She also enjoyed sitting on the front stairs and watching the world go by, or not accurately barking at those in the world passing by.

Zaiya truly was our teacher, our partner, our support, our joy and motivation, our accountability buddy, and our first child. Zaiya became a big sister at 10.5 years and showed great care for the little human baby, even though it was an adjustment for her.

Sadly Zaiya passed away at 11 years and 2 months completely unexpectedly and incredibly suddenly on June 2,2024. We are heartbroken. Her absence leaves a piece missing in our family and we are saddened that she and her human sister didn't have more time together. We'll never forget just how special Zaiya was, and how much better she made our lives every single day.

I loved Zaiya from the moment I met her. She immediately made Finn feel comfortable with his new school. Her presence made me feel calm too. In a world full of anxious dogs, Zaiya was a balm to everyone she met. She loved her people, and her little sister. She will live forever in our hearts. ❤️

The journey through grief is different for everyone, but we know support, community and sharing stories help make the experience one of remembrance, renewal and even celebration of the life lost. We hope you find comfort in the memorial you’ve set up for your companion and encourage you to share with family and friends so they can show their love and support.
